About Us
Interlaken Preschool is a play-based, Reggio Emilia-inspired preschool for children ages two and a half to five, on the Stevens School campus in Capitol Hill. We are a licensed nonprofit organization. Our approach is a commitment to an emergent curriculum and anti-bias practices, drawing on the proven ideas and experiences of schools in Reggio Emilia, Italy.
We are part of Sound Child Care Solutions. Our mission is to prepare young children for school and for life by providing high-quality early childhood education.
Enrollment
Our preschool class is available for two and a half to five-year-olds in a mixed-age setting, with our classroom open from 8:00 am -4:30 pm. Preschoolers must enroll in a five-day-a-week schedule. We also have a limited number of spaces for an 8:30 am-2:30 pm school day option. The maximum group size is 19, and the teacher-to-child ratio is 1:7 for much of the day.
Curriculum
Interlaken Preschool is a play-based, Reggio Emilia-inspired program. When you tour our site, you'll notice a focus on documentation displays. These showcase children's thoughts and explanations through photographs, visual presentations, and transcripts, illustrating their learning process. We see the curriculum as everything that happens during our time with the children. We believe each moment offers an opportunity to explore relationships and build a community that nurtures children, teachers, and families.
